National Animal Legislation



Great Ape Protection and Cost Savings Act (S. 810/H.R. 1513)

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is proposing to move all of the surviving government-owned chimpanzees from the safety of their home in New Mexico to an invasive research lab in Texas. You can help the chimps by calling Congress today in support of the Great Ape Protection and Cost Savings Act (S. 810/H.R. 1513).

American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act

H.R. 503/S. 311 would end the slaughter of American horses for human consumption and prohibit their export for slaughter in other countries. Read a fact sheet from the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) on this bill. Track the progress of the House Bill and the Senate Bill.

 

National Animal Rescue Day

Designates a National Animal Rescue Day to create awareness, educate, increase animal adoption, and increase financial support for animal rescues throughout the United States. Track the progress of this House Bill.

 

Protect America's Wildlife Act

To close a loophole in federal law which currently permits the shooting of Alaskan wolves and other wildlife from airplanes and helicopters. Track the progress of this House Resolution.

International Animal Legislation




EU Commission Proposes Ban in Seal Products

The proposal, announced July 23 2008 by EU Environment Commissioner Mr. Stavros Dimas, comes after growing political opposition and a huge public outcry in the European Union about the ongoing commercial hunts for young seals.
