New Mexico's Pet Resource

Writers' Guidelines

PETroglyphs is a quarterly animal resource newsletter. Our mission is to educate the general public on the proper care of companion animals, spread the message of humane education and a no-kill philosophy, inform people of the importance of spaying and neutering animals to end animal overpopulation, and bring animal welfare issues to the public’s attention.

PETroglyphs accepts articles from individuals and organizations believed to be of good reputation or professional standing, but we do not endorse nor can we guarantee the quality of all information provided. The views of contributing writers do not necessarily reflect those of PETroglyphs’ editors.

PETroglyphs reserves the right to make the final decision on the editing of any article. Articles may need to be changed in order to fit space requirements or for matters of style. The editors will attempt not to change the author’s meaning during the editing process.

Authors are asked to verify any facts they use in an article and provide the verification to the editor. If a question arises about a statement in an article, the PETroglyphs editor must be able to check or cite the source of the statement.

Style guidelines:

1. The word “it” will not be used when referring to an animal. The term “he” or “she” or the animal’s name is used instead.

2. The term “companion animal” is preferred although “pet” may be accepted.

3. The terms “pet guardian” and “pet owner” may be controversial. Either may be acceptable at the discretion of the editor.

4. The word count for an article will be determined by the editor at the time of assignment. It is necessary to keep the article within that word count or it will be edited to fit space requirements.

5. Articles must be in by the deadline determined by the editor unless arrangements are made in advance with the editor.

6. If there is a question about the use of an article, the final decision will be made by the PETroglyphs’ staff.

7. PETroglyphs will be written as “PETroglyphs” to emphasize our mission.

PETroglyphs invites submissions of story ideas, notices of events, photographs, artwork, and other work that would enhance the publication and further our mission.

Send your submissions to: Petroglyphs, Attn: Editor, PO Box 28214, Santa Fe, NM 87592-8214. Please include your address, email address, and phone number so that we can contact you.
